This year it is Hull City of Culture (2017), throughout the year and on each Monday a new challenge is presented. People from Hull have been joining in.
“No Limits, our learning programme, aims to discover the creativity hidden beneath the surface in our fantastic city. We have teamed up with 64 Million Artists and community groups and organisations across Hull to set a weekly creative challenge to encourage everyone in the city to try something new – Challenge Hull”
Last weeks challenge (#18) was to write a short sharp poem and you can read more about this challenges on Hull City of Cultures official website. I didn’t write a short piece but I was in fact inspired to write a poem, I haven’t written a poem since my teens so it has been a decade but I wanted to share it with you. It was written to my husband Rob who has been a huge support to me, you can also read more about our journey in the Fox Stories series.
New, loved and no bars
I never thought that I would find,
Someone who loves me back and is always kind,
For I was lost and you found me,
You broke me free from what bound me,
You helped me learn to love again,
To trust and open up and have no shame,
You’re my hero and knight,
And now I want you to know that you don’t need to fight,
You don’t need to hold me up when I feel so much pain,
Because now we hold each other’s hands and through this turmoil we have gained,
A love that is so strong, unbreakable and pure,
One that can stand tall and be united to endure,
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
And thank you for showing me that I could have a new start.
I decided to read this out to Rob in which I welled up and struggled to get through it, it came from the heart.
Funnily enough whilst writing this and looking at the Hull City of Culture (2017) website I noticed that the week 1 challenge they featured my entry, you can see it on this page. I have to say I was delighted as I hadn’t noticed or seen this. I am proud to be from Hull and you can read about my connection with Hull in my Made in Hull post.
