Isolation Junction by Jennifer Gilmour

This is my own novel, it isn't a text book and is a novel. The idea was to educate through a form of entertainment. People have found it enlightening. You can see people's thoughts over at www.jennifergilmour.com/about

Blurb:

Rose is the mother of two young children, and finds herself living a robotic life with an abusive and controlling husband. While she struggles to maintain a calm front for the sake of her children, inside Rose is dying and trapped in ‘Isolation Junction’.
She runs an online business from home, because Darren won’t let her work outside the house. But through this, she meets other mums and finds courage to attend networking events, while Darren is at work, to promote her business.
It’s at one of these events that Rose meets Tim, a sympathetic, dark-haired stranger who unwittingly becomes an important part of her survival.

After years of emotional abuse, of doubting her future and losing all self-confidence, Rose takes a stand. Finding herself distraught, alone and helpless, Rose wonders how she’ll ever escape with her sanity and her children. With 100 reasons to leave and 1,000 reasons she can’t will she be able to do it? Will Tim help her? And will Rose find peace and the happiness she deserves? Can Rose break free from this spiralling life she so desperately wants to change?

Based on true events.

Clipped Wings by Jennifer Gilmour

This is my own publication (2nd), it is non-fiction and can be used as case studies for colleges, universities, training and more. It can also be read as a form of entertainment, readers are more likely to be those who have gone through it themselves. You can see people's thoughts over at www.jennifergilmour.com/about

Blurb:

The silent chorus.

Just imagine you thought that you had met the man or woman of your dreams. This person was charming and you thought they were the one or perhaps that this was fate; it was just meant to be.

But as the months go by things start to change. Their behaviour towards you isn’t the same, they are more critical, more particular about your appearance, what you do, how you do it, who you see. Months and years go by and you feel isolated from your friends and family because that behaviour has now turned into threats, maybe violence and you feel that your identity is all but gone. But still you stay. Where would you go? Who would help you?

The message of this book is one of courage, as with courage comes awareness and an ability to look back on your relationship and see signs you didn’t see before, signs which signify unpleasantness, manipulation, and control.

A group of survivors have written, or been interviewed, about their own experiences. These accounts – in their own words – show that survivors do have a voice and that it needs to be heard. They show that abuse isn’t unique or strange but that it is, in fact, a surprisingly common problem in today’s society. With their help, we can reach out to educate people about this insidious behaviour.

It is unacceptable, unwarranted, and brings misery and disharmony to so many.

This book shows that survivors don’t stand alone, in fact, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will suffer domestic abuse and/or coercive control … The problem is very real.

“Together, we bring our stories to you and sing out like a silent choir, to broadcast to the world that with courage comes awareness and with awareness comes the freedom that everyone deserves – to be themselves.”

Autumn Sky by Helen Pryke

My short story, Autumn Sky, is the fictional story of Julia, who is psychologically abused by her husband, Simon, for many years. Based on my own experiences, I wrote it to help women who find themselves in a similar situation and to help others understand why it is so hard to leave. It is permanently free on Amazon and all other online retailers.

Blurb

The day Julia’s best friend Becky gives her a magazine article to read, her whole world falls apart. After years of emotional and psychological abuse, is Julia ready to face the truth about her perfect marriage to Simon or will she continue to hide her head in the sand?

Walls of Silence by Helen Pryke

This is my debut novel, written when I was going through the separation from my first husband after suffering 23 years of psychological abuse. It was a way of getting rid of all the anger, hurt, and frustration that had built up over the years. While the story is fiction, and I didn't experience most of the things poor Maria goes through, the emotions Maria feels come from me. Walls of Silence is available on Amazon and in Kindle Unlimited.

Blurb

Living in the mountains of Sicily, Maria has the perfect childhood until the tragic accident that changes her life forever. The events that follow will take her away from her home town to the streets of Milan, in an ever-increasing spiral of abuse and deception. Will she ever be able to trust anyone ever again? Set in turbulent 1960s Italy, Walls of Silence is the story of a girl who must find the courage and strength to survive her family’s betrayal and the prejudices of her country.

The Healer's Secret by Helen Pryke

This is my second novel, once again set in Italy. This novel reflects my own journey as a domestic abuse survivor - while Walls of Silence was about a young, defenceless girl who is abused by everyone around her, the protagonist of The Healer's Secret is a much stronger woman. Jennifer has her problems, but is able to overcome them through sheer determination and rebuild her life. The story has elements of domestic abuse and shows how strong women can be when necessary. The Healer's Secret is available on Amazon and in Kindle Unlimited.

Blurb

Awarded the Readers Favorite 5-star review
Jennifer’s life isn’t going as she planned. Fired from her job and on the brink of divorce at thirty-one, her only salvation lies at the bottom of a wine bottle. When her mother insists she get away from everything, she reluctantly agrees to explore her Italian roots in Tuscany.
Staying in her family’s centuries-old cottage, she becomes embroiled in a mysterious tragedy involving her great-grandmother. As she delves further into her ancestors’ history, she discovers there is more to her heritage than meets the eye.
Ghosts from the past could give Jennifer something she thought she’d never have: a future. But that depends on whether she can resist temptation and avoid slipping back into her old ways.
Will she be able to conquer her inner demons and discover the healer’s secret?

Why Does He Do That by Lundy Bancroft

Honestly, this is my bible.  My go to book that helped me see through the fog he left me with.  I've recommended this to a few people who've said it has really helped.  It has over 350 5 star reviews on Amazon.

Blurb

"He doesn't mean to hurt me-he just loses control."
"He can be sweet and gentle."
"He's scared me a few times, but he never hurts the children-he's a great father."
"He's had a really hard life..."

Women in abusive relationships tell themselves these things every day. Now they can see inside the minds of angry and controlling men-and change their own lives. In this groundbreaking book, a counselor shows how to improve, survive, or leave an abusive relationship, with:

€ The early warning signs
€ Nine abusive personality types
€ How to tell if an abuser can change, is changing, or ever will
€ The role of drugs and alcohol
€ What can be fixed, and what can't
€ How to leave a relationship safely

I originally started writing this story for one reason, I had an idea about a particular aspect and wanted to try a short story. It wasn't until I started that it became the story and later, novel, it is. She's not gone is the fictional story of Katie Hawcroft's life. She finds herself falling into a controlling and abusive relationship, in the way it often happens. Katie is vulnerable and ready to be loved by someone, anyone.

As soon as I became aware of the plot of the story, I knew that I had to ensure, even though it was fictional, that it represented those who truly know what it is like to experience these kinds of relationships. I felt a huge weight of responsibility bearing down on me! So, I spoke to women who had gone through this, I researched and I poured some of my own experiences into it.

I'll just point out now that there is no man to swoop in and rescue her in the end. I'm the mum of two girls and I want my own daughters to know that we don't need a 'man' to rescue us! (By the way, I am happily married!) Not that there is anything wrong with that at all. It's just nice to have a story where women are strong themselves. Sometimes stronger than they know 🙂

The book is currently only available from Amazon and is unrolled in Kindle Unlimited. Here is a universal link :

My book The Inheritance Thief is being published on 31st August.   Based on my autobiography My Brother My Enemy is tells the story of psychological and financial elder abuse of a stepmother.   She was frightened and placed in an impossible situation.  Cathy was ostracised from her family and solicitors bled her dry until she came across Frank, a solicitor with a gambling habit.   The Inheritance Thief is a novel.  Fact or fiction, the reader decides.

I am travelling from NZ to the UK to try and promote this novel  to bring aware to a situation often swept under the carpet.   A hard task, book shops are not really interested unless they hold ticketed events, but I have signings in my old home town of  Warminster, in Wiltshire.  I originally hail from Yorkshire and should go back there, but I have reasons not to.   I would be grateful for any marketing help any one may give.

The book is available from austinmacauley.com  It will also be on amazon from Friday.   Thanks one and all.
