Advocacy

After attending a recovery programme developed by Rock Pool I recognised that there were many others in abusive relationships. I couldn’t bare the thought of people being trapped in relationships that they hadn’t recognised were unhealthy, just like mine. It was at the end of this course that I decided I needed to do something to help raise awareness. It started with the publications of my first two books and soon led to being more vocal on social media. I continue to raise awareness through my blog posts, public speaking, television and radio interviews and social influence.

#AbuseTalk

#AbuseTalk first started when I first met another person with lived experiences of domestic abuse. It was nine months after fleeing my relationship when I felt like I wasn’t alone. I soon recognised that speaking with others with a similar experience helped me in my recovery.

Join the discussion on domestic abuse through a weekly Twitter Chat every Wednesday 8-9pm GMT we discuss domestic abuse and invite anyone to join in.

We have a forum which is available 24/7 and even houses a solicitor who will answer questions and queries for no charge.

We have a podcast which delivers a series of interviews with those that work in the domestic abuse sector. Available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and more. It is also broadcast on Access North West Radio Station three times a week.

#AbuseTalk is sponsored by different individuals and organisations that are passionate about raising awareness of domestic abuse.

RockPool is the main sponsor and they deliver trauma-informed programmes across the UK.

The Podcast has seen many guests recognised in the sector but also invites those with lived experiences to share their story. I believe that we should continue to bridge the gap between professionals and survivors.

Community Building

I have over 15 years of experience with communities with over 10 years specifically in digital communities. #AbuseTalk is one of those communities and the reason I received the award for UK & European Marketing Award for Using Social Media for Good in 2019.

In 2020 I started to help assist business owners with their community offering 121 training, courses and community assistance. This area of my life has its very own hub which can help you build your own community.
