So I am posting the ‘real’ me and I’ve splashed it right on the top image for all to see. I have to say I hate seeing this photo of me and sharing it with you is even more cringe worthy – I am going to explain why.
Let me first of all inform you that in the photo I am in my comfy clothes and I am wearing minimal make up if any at all. I have no foundation on, this is why you can see my current spotty skin. I have had a lack of sleep, perhaps only getting 2-3 hours a night.
I have been walking around every day like this for over a week, I felt that there was no point putting foundation on to cover those spots because it will only aggravate them and take longer to get rid of the outbreak. I am in comfy clothes because I have been unwell and for quite some time, I felt like I deserved to be comfortable with months of struggling in pain. Although I feel like hiding my face and hope not to bump into anyone I know.
So, why do I hate the way I look in this image? I don’t think its actually how I feel? I believe its the world of media and how I feel I ‘should’ look. I should wear tight skinny jeans and I should cover up my spots, we are constantly shown on adverts how to cover up and how to look our best. At the moment I don’t feel like I want to, I am so tired and even taking time to put make up on seems like a rather big job. I wouldn’t usually admit this to anyone, let alone write this in a blog.
BUT… I feel it is important to share this with you. You are allowed to wear comfy clothes and no make-up if you decide. You are still beautiful, you don’t have to be afraid of society or what people think, you are allowed to simply be you. It reminds me of watching Bridget Jones Diary when Colin Firth says “I like you very much. Just as you are”, thats what we need in our lives.
Now you have seen the ‘real’ me, does it change your opinion about me?
I hope the answer to this is not because thats what it should be.
Wherever you are today and whatever you look like on Blue Monday, you are beautiful the way you are.
