I was delighted to have spent my weekend at The Happiness Club retreat. I originally wanted to go on this retreat to be able to create an addition to the support I give to victims, survivors and those in the sector of domestic abuse. Also to go for myself as I believed it would help me grow as a person and enable me to take the steps I need to take to move forward in my journey and not be held back by my own feelings and fears. Yes I have fears, I am human (saying this with a smile and a wink).

I am not very good at giving myself time out and relaxing, those that know me know that I am always on the go and busy. I speak with victims and survivors at all hours of the day and I fit in writing, social media, my blog and around this. Not to mention my family life.

I was so excited to hear that I had received part funding from BizMums just before Christmas last year. It was a great way to end the year especially as I had a pretty tough 2017 with medical problems.

The retreat was at Shringley Hall in Macclesfield, a 4* Hotel and spa, I loved spending time in the spa which was in the church building you can see on the photo above. The weekend was perfect as today is in fact my 30th birthday so we had some celebratory drinks as well.

Here I am alongside the other women at the Happiness Retreat on day 1

I am going to be odd here and tell you about the last exercises we did. We paired up and for a whole two minutes you had to say as much positive attributes about the other person, they had to write them down and then we swapped over. These intern would become your daily affirmations to say to yourself each day.

I was lucky enough to have Jo Howarth herself and this is what she said about me:

  • Inspirational
  • Caring
  • Loving
  • Open and honest which shows that I am courageous
  • Inteligent
  • I know my aim and where I am going
  • Encouraging
  • Give people a voice

The funny thing is that in another exercise we did (which involved visualising the best version of yourself) this is what I wanted to become. I hadn’t ever thought that this might have already come across. It felt rather strange but nice at the same time.

What would your affirmations be?

Eric Berne, a TA counsellor, advised that everyone should have a bank of affirmations that he dubbed the Stroke Bank… If I remember nothing else from my counselling training, I remember that! Haha, but still, what a fabulous way to spend a birthday. I’m definitely going to look into a retreat like this x

Thank you Radzy. It’s certainly worth looking into retreats. I learnt so much and I also recognised familiar concepts and developed them.
Thank you for sharing the additional information, that was very interesting. Jennifer

I went to Shrigley Hall a year ago for a little birthday night away and loved the spa too!
The Happiness Treat certainly does sound a treat and well deserved by the sounds of it too. Hope the affirmations are going well
