There are parts of my life and my experiences which I haven’t been able to share and late last year there was no exception. I could share how I felt; I was stuck on my own on a train crying, trying to hold it back, sniveling and feeling very hot and bothered with no tissues to hand. But, I couldn’t share why this came over me.
I find this difficult to handle at times because I know awareness of the emotions that link to certain situations would help others as well as myself. I have learned to project in different ways and even starting this journey I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. I can say that going down this path wasn’t easy and there have been times I have wondered if I can continue. Don’t worry, I am not going anywhere, its more of an overwhelming feeling at times.
Usually, I am good at managing myself but it was bad timing on this train and I was a few hours away from my destination. I couldn’t control my emotions, I am not saying I should either. I was ready to throw in the towel and questioned everything I was doing, only for an hour or so. It passed and I remembered to allow myself some time, to never act on emotion.
The next day and my whole mood changed, yes still emotional and stuck in my thoughts but with a different attitude… I cannot give up.
I remember reading something a little while back that successful businesses are those who are able to work their way through difficult times and I felt it was the same for people. Last year I listened to a talk by the general manager for Fuji Film UK at the World Marketing Summit and it really brought that home to me. Fuji Film are known for their film reels for camera’s, I personally remember taking the film reels to the shop to be processed and was very fond of them. In fact, I had a necklace with a miniature film on it that I won on a holiday when I was around 10. Photography went digital and you can imagine the impact it would have on such a business. Fuji Film changed and adapted to this new era using their specialties in different areas including scanning machines and antiaging products. Hearing the journey they have taken and that they used a period of depression to learn and to find a new path was inspirational.

What sticks out though,,, they didn’t pack up, they rode the wave. I think a lot of us hop from job to job and business ideas because we are expecting something big to happen fast. I can partly blame social media for this and that’s why it’s important for me to share some raw honest feelings of mine at times. I have mentioned before that my husband has said to me “you’ve got to go through the hard times to know what the good times feel like”, sometimes you don’t want to accept this but I believe that’s pretty accurate even if it’s hard to accept. I also believe that if you are going to find success then it is going to be in whatever you do and that hopping around isn’t going to help you succeed, again the success is measured by each individual.
The talk from Fuji Film won’t leave my mind anytime soon, it helped me personally but with my work as an author and advocate; and also with my husband’s business OuTFox.
My mindset has improved over the years and it’s only with self-development and putting tools in place for when I am feeling overwhelmed that aids my journey. The fact that I was able to shift my mindset within 24 hours of this moment I experienced is a success, years ago this would have knocked me for weeks and I wouldn’t have moved in that time.
How do you help to work on your mindset and has it changed over time?
