I would have never of considered fashion to feel empowered but I guess my journey has expressed that. The level of control I was under in an abusive relationship meant that I wasn’t able to choose what I would wear in the end. Even when I came out of the relationship he had control of my choices because I would hear his voice telling me what I couldn’t wear. Now, its very much different, I feel free in my choices and will only ask for opinion on suitability over another outfit rather than if its appropriate of it I look fat or plumpy in areas. I find the process of clothes shopping a chore and not something I enjoy but when I find an outfit I am confident in it really changes my confidence levels. I always make sure I am wearing something I feel confident in when I talk at events, it helps me present myself better and if any photos are taken I will be happy with the outcome.

Has fashion had an impact on you?

Here’s a collaborative post to share some tips.

Know Your Body Shape & Size

It’s always good to know your body shape and sizing. Your body shape can change over time, but when it comes to sizing, that can vary depending on the place you’re shopping in. So it’s good to be aware of your sizing in general even though it could change from pillar to post. With your body shape, there are different shapes that have been defined, but it might not necessarily be that you’re one of those shapes. You could be a mixture of two or three, and that can make shopping difficult because you want to get the place right. That’s why it’s important to know more about body shape and how it can influence the type of clothing you go for. From the style, the cut, and even the material, it’s good to know your body shape, so you know what will work and what might not work as well.

Find Pieces That Enhance You

It could be enhancing a part of you that you’ve always liked, or it could be your whole body. It could be something that enhances your personality and how you hold yourself in public. These pieces are something that is going to elevate you, and it’s good to look at what gives you that edge when it comes to fashion. It’s something that’s going to be different for everyone, so find things that work for you, rather than for someone else.

Shop With Designers That Relate To You

There are so many different designers, fashion houses, and outlets for clothing nowadays that you’re spoilt for choice. It’s good to pick those designers that relate closely to you and that you enjoy what they produce on a regular basis. Each one is going to feature something a little different, so start shopping with designers that you value and enjoy in terms of the fashion that they create. Your choices might change over time, but there’s likely to be one or two that you can always guarantee you’re going to find something you love. Those designers are going to help influence and empower you to feel good in the clothing you’re wearing.

Show Off Your Personality With Your Outfits

Your personality is something that can really stand out when it comes to fashion. You want to pick out those pieces that are really going to reflect who you are as a person and what you love. Whether it’s the type of textures you like to the colors that you love the most. Instead of focusing so much on other people’s fashion, focus on what you want to show through your clothing. After all, fashion is a great way to show self-expression, and when you’re trying to empower yourself, you want to feel empowered in your own way. Find the pieces that reflect you for who you are and what you want to give off to other people. Whether that’s in the workplace or out on social occasions, it’s all relevant.

Make Your Own Trends

Trends come and go. As much as they are helpful in inspiring you, you want to pick items of clothing that you are going to wear on a regular basis. If you’re picking things out from trends simply because they’re popular, you’re likely going to find that most of the items in your wardrobe aren’t something you want to wear. So what’s the solution to that? Start making your own trends! Find the parts of trends and styles that you love and craft it into something that’s unique to you. You don’t need to necessarily follow the crowd when it comes to fashion in order to feel empowered.
