A collaborative post today, something that has helped me through lockdown. It isn’t something I have shared with you on here before but I know some of you have noticed another project I started during the first lockdown.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted people’s lives across the world; there is no doubt that these are challenging times. Aside from the feelings of isolation caused by lockdown, many people also have job insecurity to deal with too. With plenty of extra time spent at home, it is only natural to daydream about changes that you could make in your life to help you take charge of your situation and regain control of your destiny. Considering a career change and taking on a side project to work on in your free time could be just what is needed to help you through lockdown and keep your mind occupied. In difficult times, having something to focus on can be a huge help.

In the current situation, starting an online business is the most logical choice, as you can continue to work from home, and even when you return to your day job, you can keep building your side project in your spare time.

There are many options to consider when starting an online business, as it is the perfect opportunity to use your skills and talents and showcase them. Will you get creative and make items that you can then list for sale on your website? Or, perhaps you will purchase goods to re-sale at a profit.

Myself, I have set up an online networking platform that connects business owners in alternative ways. It started as a free support group on Facebook called Small Business Networking, I wanted a space for business owners to share concerns but also offering opportunities during the time. Both my husband and I work from home and so it was a very scary time for us. Latte & Live was born from this, it’s a membership which is perfect for you if you are self-employed or run a business. It offers a fun and energetic type of networking alongside training, socials, challenges and other pop-up events. It has certainly helped us through this time and will be a part of our lives moving forward.

However, the work I do with Domestic Abuse will always be a passion and will continue to provide support and awareness.

Here’s a good place to start if you are setting up online…

Create Your Website

There is an excellent choice of platforms available for anyone looking to set up a website, even if you have little experience in this area. Creating your website is a perfect way to learn a new skill and update your knowledge of all things IT-related. Choosing your site’s design and seeing it all come together is a fascinating process, and the perfect opportunity to have fun and be creative.

Make it Search Engine-Friendly

To help your website reach as many people as possible, you need to ensure that you consider search engine optimisation known as SEO. Improving the SEO of your website will enhance its search engine rankings by making it rank in a higher position on results pages than it would otherwise have done. The higher your website ranks on the searches, the more likely that people will click through. Research shows that many people never search beyond the first three results pages on a search engine, so getting your site to rank as high as possible is essential.

Increase Your Sales

Once you have worked on your website’s SEO, you may want to focus on other areas and determine how they can increase product sales. Having a well-designed website that features all the information that visitors need to make a purchase is crucial. Are you looking to add live support to your website? Live support is an excellent choice as visitors will be unlikely to make a purchase if there is information missing, or they cannot see the answer to any queries they may have. Live support enables site visitors to ask questions at any time and get the answer promptly, which will increase sales and save you time.
